Basement Conversion

The existing 1930’s property was built on a site that has a dramatic change of level from the front to back and consisted of a part basement with limited headroom. Form architecture was commissioned to create a large open plan kitchen, living and dining area with access onto the garden creating a 3-storey dwelling. The basement was excavated to the required depth with major structural alterations and the rear wall was removed with the insertion of sliding folding doors to create a spacious and bright contemporary living space. The scheme also involved the creation of a terrace to the existing ground floor living room also with sliding folding doors with glass balustrading and a galvanized steel staircase down to the garden. The internal staircase was extended down to the basement from the existing ground floor hallway to give the appearance as an original feature of the house.
