The existing house was designed in the 1960’s by an influential architect and was created as a modern dwelling for a new style of living. The buildings form, vast open plan areas and the use of large glazed screens created a contemporary dwelling quite unique for its location. The external envelope of building however had become worn and tired over the years and the current owners commissioned form architecture to remodelling the external appearance to further enhance the buildings quality. The existing timber cladding was removed and replaced with an insulated sto render that was polished to create a stone effect with joints to create an elegant and contemporary façade. The existing entrance and canopy was extended with a 3m cantilvered beam to create the illusion lightweight and floating structure.
The existing pool house was also remodelled as modernist pavilion to create a covered lounge area to enable use to suit the British climate, extensive landscaping was also part of the remodelling designs.
